The Birth of Party Pieces…

BY Pippa Middleton 5th Mar

Carole Middleton founded Party Pieces in 1987 after finding it difficult to source fun, simple party products for her children’s parties. Now more than 23 years on the company is still going from strength to strength.

1. What were you doing before Party Pieces?

I was lucky enough to be a full-time Mum.

2. What inspired you to set up the company?
I came up with the idea for Party Pieces when I was looking for party paraphernalia for my own children’s parties.  It was impossible to find anything easily in the shops and trying to find value for money party bag presents was a complete nightmare!

3. What makes Party Pieces unique?
We are the original UK mail order party company – starting from a shed in the back garden in 1987. We have come along way since then, but we are still very much a family business; I  am still actively involved and love sourcing and developing new party products.

4. What are your signature/exclusive products?
Party boxes and the party food box trays have to be our signature products. Way back in 1990 we launched our first in-house designed boxes. They were such a hit with everyone that now we try and make sure we have party boxes to go with every party theme.

5. What was your best-selling theme 10 years ago and what is it now?
Pirates has always been a  favourite party theme.  I think it’s because it’s such a great  theme if you have both boys and girls coming to your party.  But over recent years the party tableware that is always popular is the licensed character… at the moment it’s Hello Kitty for the girls and Ben 10 for the boys!!

6. How has the credit crunch affected business?
Your child’s birthday is always a very special occasion so I think everyone tries to do something to celebrate the day even if money is tight. We’ve always believed that parties do not have to be lavish and expensive occasions and have always selected wonderful traditional and inexpensive games, tableware and activites.  However, over the past year we’ve included some real value-for-money offers and cost savings to make partying on a budget even easier.

7. How many people do you employ?
Around 30 people.

8. Do you have any new, exciting projects in the pipeline?
Yes… We are very excited to launch the Party Times website! We really hope it will become the party bible for every busy Mum and Dad.  We are also planning later this year to add the adult party and celebration category to the site.

9. What advice can you give someone setting up his or her own business?
Mmm… it’s great fun, but not for the faint-hearted. I still work through to the early hours to hit a deadline and never take our success for granted.

Lovely interview. Lovely company. Congrats on your success from your friend in the United States.

  2. Victoria PB  April 1, 2010 at 6:50 am

Absolutely love the website and the fact that this is a family run business makes it so much more personal. Although I’m in the US, all of the ideas are fantastic. Any plans to go global?

  3. Donna W  April 10, 2010 at 8:23 pm

Lovely site. I admire Mrs. Middleton for having the guts to start this company and turn it into a success. I have no children to buy for, but I will scout around the adult section and try to purchase something for myself. A fan from the U.S.

Your daughter is quite wonderful – level headed , self assured , unassuming and wish her the best on her forthcoming wedding.
And the same can be said for her future husband. What a pleasant surprise.
A match for all the ages

My warmest congratulation to you with your daughter Katy planning wedding!
I am Ukrainian and i know how impotrant is to keep family traditions and how important is to keep Royalty in Britain. This event is exiting for all people in the world who look at the British monarhy as a symbol of prosperity, stability and freedom. I believe your lovely daughter Katy will have a happy and fulfil life with prince William. Thank you for bringing up such a wondeful person.

    Dear Carole,

So happy for the young couple and your family. P.W. is a lucky man! As a former flight attendant with 25 years of service I’m quite peeved at some of the unkind remarks made in connection with your one-time profession, I suspect made by people who’ve never done an honest work day’s work in their lives. I am very proud of my airline service and felt I made a useful contribution as I’m sure you did too. As a young woman in 1958 I left the UK for America and, much as I love my mother country, I am reminded of one of the reasons I’m glad to be away from that class-ridden society. I applaud you and your husband for your successful enterprise and wish you all the best.

    Sincerely, Angela Gardner

  10. Sandra  November 18, 2010 at 6:52 am

Carole and Michael,Congratulations on the engagement of your daughter Kate to Prince William,I hope they will have a long and happy life together, although I must say I am not as excited about this wedding as I was when Diana and Prince Charles were married, probably because I have sons Kate and Williams age,it is still so nice when a happy event like this takes place, world misery takes a back seat.

  11. Debbie Stratton  November 18, 2010 at 6:57 am

I agree with Angela. We flight attendants DO work hard! I am one for a U.S. carrier and was on layover in London on the day of Princess Diana’s funeral. How happy it makes me to see Prince William smile so broadly as he looks at his beautiful bride to be. He is lucky to catch the daughter of a “former”(it’s in our blood always) flight attendant. I know you must be very happy and proud for your daughter. My best wishes and prayers for a long and happy life together go to this young couple.
    Sincerely, Debbie Stratton, USA

AAHHHH! I’m so delighted about the engagement,
William is such a lovely fellow, warm in touch with his feelings, he is a breath of fresh air, as was his Mother before him, in the Royal family. Kate seems to be a match made in Heaven! for him, I have a sense of a very good union taking place. Take a bow for your part in bringing up such a lovely daughter. Congratulations to all, Love & good wishes to Kate & William,

    Dear Carole,
The website of your company is really very nice and informative. It will be very helpful for your customers.
Let me take an opportunity and congratulete you from all my heart on the engagement and upcomung wedding of Kate and William. They both are so lovely.
Had Diana been alive she would have been so happy and proud for them.

    Dear Carole,

I am an Australian and read with great interest of your success of your mail order business. I have been keen about this type of business for some time but always concerned regarding reliability and sincerity of the operators. Coming from you – Middleton family surely provides high assurance.
Could I replicate your business in Sydney? Could you provide guidance?
I look forward to hearing from you.

  17. Nina Jenkins  November 28, 2010 at 12:06 pm

    Dear Mr and Mrs Middleton

I wanted to congratulate on bringing up such a lovely daughter who will no doubt enrich the royal family. I’m German but have lived in England for over ten years now and was thrilled to hear about the engagement as were my Mum and sister and we already planned for them to come over for the big day to celebrate in London – until they published the wedding date – I am due to give birth to my second son mid April! Nightmare. We will still try to make it as they are such a lovley couple and I would love to see them on their special day! I hope you can overlook ridiculous comments in the press about your family and take comfort in knowing that the majority of the country is incredibly happy that a daughter like yours will one day represent the UK. I wish you and your family all the best.

    Yours, Nina Jenkins

  18. Andrew Russell - Davis  December 3, 2010 at 9:48 pm

You must be very proud, I have always sensed Catherine being the perfect compliment to William and if interested there is more to learn regarding this which might shock but alternatively might hopefully amaze and surprise at the above website.
My sincerest congratulations to you both as well as of course the happy couple!

  19. Andrew Russell - Davis  December 3, 2010 at 9:54 pm

The website mentioned and respecting Catherine and Wills naturally being dianaspeaks.info which will come as o surprise to him being aware of Andrew since a personal letter was writen to him in 2000 and replied to with heart warming comments from his personal secretary as it spoke of his defence regarding the publcaton of the book Shadows of a Princess.

    A friend.

  20. Margaret Denman  December 8, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Finally the right moment and the world has been able to share in their joy. What a blessing to have William and Katie – just what the Royal Family needs. In my heart I believe that William has seen how a family should be and how a husband should treat his wife. My prayer for them always through all the trials of marriage – LOVE is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. LOVE NEVER FAILS. May they forever be faithful and true to one another. Gods Richest Blessings.

  21. Nancy Robertson  December 9, 2010 at 3:27 am

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding — I wish the young couple and your family every happiness. Diana would be thrilled that William has chosen Kate to be his bride. Your daughter is lovely, and she’s going to be a wonderful princess and future queen. How perfect that she’s wearing Diana’s engagement ring.

  22. Monika  December 20, 2010 at 12:02 am

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding. I was in Catherine’s corner from the time she started to date William. Your daughter has class, grace and a genuine sincerity that shines through. William is a lucky young man and I beleive his mother would be extremely happy with this union. It’s clear how much Catherine loves and supports him and that’s all Diana ever wanted for her son. I also believe she would be very happy that William has been able to share in a very happy, stable family life with your family.

I wish Catherine and William all the best for a very happy future together.

Congratulations to you all on both the business and the engagement. Is it true that Kate’s great (great?) grandfather’s brother is a Cambridge graduate?? A good idea, if so, for Kate to be Duchess of Cambridge!!

  25. Merilyn Bonifacio  January 25, 2011 at 5:15 pm

    Dear Carole
What lovely selection of partyware, I wish you had been around when my Alice was small, there was nothing like your website then, Alice is 23 now!!!. Our website is not as professional as yours, we gave the work to a struggling young guy as his first assignment, haven’t got the heart to change it yet!!
Congratulations on the fabulous news about Catherine and William, this country sorely needs two wonderful people to enrich our royal family. I am sure they will set an inspiring example of how two people in love can support each other. You both did an amazing job, she is lovely apart from the fact that she seems to have a really good head on her shoulders. The wedding will be so emotional for everyone.
    Kindest regards Merilyn

    Thank you and Good luck!

  28. Geneffa Popatia Jonker  March 5, 2011 at 7:51 am

    Dear Carole,
I am so inspired by your website and to read about your company–which I only discovered through a link while reading about the Royal Engagement. I see that most comments have shifted from the company to congratulations regarding your daughter’s high profile engagement. As a Brit (born in London, raised in Surrey) living in California, I am certainly excited about the Royal wedding, but I really want to also say that it’s a happy surprise to learn about your company. I just finished throwing my 5 year old son a “snake party” complete with snakes, and I must say nothing gets me more excited than planning for my two sons’ birthday parties. I have wielded a light saber as “Darth Mum” at a Star Wars party, developed a Rollersaurus party at the rink, and even staged a dinosaur dig in my backyard. I’m making themed party bags for my older son’s Harry Potter party in August that will have distinct party bags for each of the houses of Hogwarts and a Sorting Hat for children to draw their house. (I know, I get far too excited about these things). I’d like to know if you are considering branching out to the US or having a start-up here. I’d be interested in getting involved.
My husband and I are also starting a chai distribution company, and your story inspires me to give it a go. Thank you for this. And of course, congratulations on the upcoming nuptials–Kate and William are a fresh happy page in Royal history.

  29. Darlene Hodgson  March 9, 2011 at 2:05 am

Hello from Ontario, Canada. I’ve wanted to start a party supply company for long time..worked full time for 22 years, had four sons and had no time. My job went to Mexico and our sons are almost grown. So this is my dream. I always made the boys’s BD’s the best. I made the pinatas, goody bags and the cake! I know I can do this..my name…partypoppins.com/loots & treats
what do you think? and do you have any advice that may get me started without worrying it may be a flop? thanks so much…best wishes on your daughter’s upcoming wedding. My husband, sons & myself will be in Cuba on vacation on the 29th..I’ll make sure a friend tapes it.

  30. Emily  March 11, 2011 at 10:58 am

    Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials!

How thrilling, and what a charming daughter you have! So exciting!
Your website is fantastic and I too found out about it while reading updates on the wedding.

Never worry about what others say, you are doing great–and we will watch over your family and the nuptials with all the love from Canada!

Of course we will be up early to watch it,
I am so looking forward to it.

May the young couple find all the joy, love and harmony that I have had privilege to share with my spouse of 38 years!

A million good wishes to you all!

I’m so happy to have found this site with shipping to France! What a great business idea too!

Compared to the USA, France lacks a large selection of party supplies for kids. All of my expat friends get theirs shipped from home because parties just aren’t done up in France like they are in the USA.

I will definitely be back for my son’s Toy Story party in a few months!

Also, i think Kate and Pippa are the most beautiful women ever! You are very lucky to have them as daughters! Kate and William are a match made in heaven and i do admire how polite and kind they both are!

  43. Libby  April 14, 2011 at 6:41 am

I am just a normal working woman aged over 50years – I live in Western Australia in a town called Karratha (8 hours from Broome and 6 hours from Exmouth where the Ningaloo Reff is) anyway over here in Western Australia we don’t get much news on the upcoming nuptials only what is ‘sensational’ such as Kate visiting Ireland etc., with Prince William. I guess at times you must find it unreal that your daughter is going to marry one of the most important, if not richest, men in the world. I know alot of people think of it as a ‘fairytale’ but even fairytales have duties and responsibilities and I guess not having any privacy is the price you pay for being ‘rich and famous’ I think Kate is a beautiful person and you must be very, very proud of her. I know when Princess Mary (she is from Australis) married Frederick of Denmark she bought that something important to the Denmar Royal Family and I know Kate will do the same to the British Royal Family – that something is “commonsense”.

  44. Pippa Reilly  April 17, 2011 at 6:19 pm

I am the same Pippa as above! Just wanted to say i live in Huddersfield, West yorkshire!

  45. Rashmi  April 20, 2011 at 3:04 pm

    Dear Carole,
Iam an Indian and very excited about the wedding.
Its really a fairy tale…a beautiful girl gets her prince charming.Kate’s destiny was written by god almighty himself.
Many congratulations to you and Kate and William.
Congratilating you feels like standing in front of Kate and William and giving my best wishes.
    God bless.

  46. Mrs Gail Victoria Bradley  April 20, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Time has flown since Prince william and Catherine were engaged and the world awaits their forthcoming marriage next week. We cannot begin to imagine how excited you will all be and perhaps your tummies are doing a few tipple over tails. What else is there to say, it has all been said. May you all have the first of many of the most wonderful days of your lives and may William and Kate’s life together be filled with love, health and happiness that the world is wishing them.

Prince William is a very lucky man, not only has he won the heart of a very beautiful woman but he has also the love of a very close family and wonderful in-laws. Princess Diana would have been so very happy.

May God Bless you all, we are all counting the days.

    Dear Mr and Mrs Middleton,
I would like to congradulate you and your family on the upcoming wedding(tomorrow) of your daughter Kate. It was almost 30 years ago that I watched the wedding of Prince William’s parents. At 22 it was amazing to see and now at 52 I am as excited. I have prayed for blessings for your daughter Kate and Prince William. Kate seems like a well rounded woman thanks to you and your husband. I am from Canada but am so happy England has a special woman to unite with Prince William and become a couple young people can look to as mentors.
I would also like to congratulate you and your family on the success of your business. The party pieces are terrific. It is so nice to bring a magical experience into a child’s party.
God Bless you and your family.

Congratulations to you all xx

  96. Catherine  April 30, 2011 at 12:46 am

I watched the wedding of your daughter Catherine to Prince William and found it to be very in touch with today’s youth. She looked radiant and when he told her she looked beautiful I was reduced to tears they are very much in love of that there is not doubt. I hope that they will be allowed to live a happy and content life in the public eye but without intrusion which would bring them undue stress and damage to their beautiful relationship. I can’t wait till the day they announce that there is to be the patter of tiny feet being a grand mother myself it will just be another chapter in a love story born out of true love. I wish them all the very best for the future and congratulate you on your nurturing of such a beautiful human being.

I too have a grandaughter named Pippa and I hope she grows as well as your daughters. 106. Helen  April 30, 2011 at 11:51 am

    Dear Mrs Middleton,
    I have to congratulate, too.
First of all, you on being such a wonderful mother and idea champion. Then, on having brought up such wonderful children. And last but not least, for having kept your eldest daughter down to earth and modesty.
    The wedding was wonderful!
Catherine is really the best match for Prince William I can imagine. May they be as happy as you seem to be and may they have such a happy and warm family life within their protocol obligations.
    I admire you!
    Helen from Slovenia

  107. Tania  April 30, 2011 at 11:58 am

    Dear Mrs Middleton,
I am an English ex-pat living in Sydney Australia. I was a huge fan of the late Diana, Princess of Wales and have watched the young sons she left behind grow into handsome, caring and sensitive young men, just as she would have wished. I congratulate you and your husband on the marriage of your daughter to one of these fine young men and wish them both every happiness. I am distressed to see the vitriol that is hurled at you, by the media and some British people particularly. I admire the fact that you have worked hard and attained success in every way. It’s just sour grapes from people who resent people who either inherit wealth by an accident of birth or earn it by sheer hard graft and canny business acumen. So please ignore them. Here in Australia they call it the tall poppy syndrome. “They must be cut down” – it’s horrid. You have achieved success beyond their wildest dreams and imaginings with your business and by knowing that your daughter will one day be queen (consort) to the future king of England. I watched the wedding with much joy (you looked fabulous, by the way) and wish William and Kate much happiness and you, continued success to your business. And now I shall happily browse your website! Regards…

  109. Margaret Stevens  April 30, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Congratulations to all the Middleton family for showing the British people and indeed, the rest of the world, what a joyful thing an “old-fashioned” marriage can be. You have raised three beautiful children and I feel sure that Princess Catherine will continue to shine as a beacon, together with Prince William, casting light and serenity in these turbulent times and for many many years to come. Princess Diana will be looking down with enormous pride in them both.

  110. Diane  April 30, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Congratulations Carol, I you are at the moment of inspiration…. I loved your page web is simple and has it all.

  111. Daiva E.  April 30, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Congratulations ! What a beautiful day we had yesterday.
Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale…
All the happyness for Kate and William!

  112. Jillian Jones  April 30, 2011 at 5:16 pm

What a lovely family you appear to be. Your clothing sense at the wedding yesterday was very nice. You must be very proud of BOTH your Daughters, they certainly did well. Your Son, did a brilliant job with his speach and his voice was amazing. For someone so young he did your whole country proud.
I just hope that everything goes better for them than it did for the Duke’s mother Diana. I would be a nervous wreck if I had a Daughter become involved with that family. I guess time will tell. But I honestly hope that they have so much happiness together.
I also hope Pippa one day has a beautiful wedding because she simply looked gorgeous.
Wishing all of you the very best always.

You showed the world that you don’t need to be an aristocrat/royal to have class. Truly beautiful!

  117. Eric Lanum  April 30, 2011 at 8:50 pm

    Dear Mr. and Mrs. Middleton,

All around the world, including here in the United States, we read fairy tales to our children. Our children watch fairy tale films and have fairy tale themed parties (as you are aware). Every little girl wants to be a princess. Every little girl dreams of meeting her prince, falling in love and living happily ever after. Most of the time those dreams are just a metaphor for living a happy life. However, in Catherine’s case, she is living a real life fairy tale.

You have provided that opportunity to her through your hard work and perseverance. Your will and tenacity has provided her, and all your children with opportunities they would not otherwise have had. I truly admire what you have done for your family and you are to be commended for all your efforts and hard work. I can’t imagine how anyone could have done a better job.

Because of these recent special events, many of us simply want to feel our own connection in all of it. Even as adults we long to be a part of something special. I suppose this is why we are writing here. I wish you all the best and I wish William and Catherine a long, fulfilling life together as the future King and Queen of a great nation.

    Fargo, North Dakota, USA

  121. Melanie  May 1, 2011 at 12:48 am

I’m not a great royalist but Kate has definitly got my seal of approval. She looked beautiful in her wedding gown, as did Pippa in her role as maid of honour. Kate and William looked so happy and such a normal loving couple. This new generation of Royals will give a fresh outlook to how the family are percieved. I’m a fan of them both already!!!!!

  122. Sue Clements  May 1, 2011 at 2:12 am

  125. Charlotte  May 1, 2011 at 4:32 am

Congratulations on your daughter Kate’s marriage to Prince William! I was up at 2am here in Victoria, Canada to watch it live and it was worth every second of loss of sleep :-) We on the other side of the pond appreciate you letting us share in that with you. You and your daughters looked beautiful, and your son did a great job on the reading during the ceremony. Mr Middleton looked so proud walking his daughter down the aisle. I wish them both a long and happy marriage, and a long and successful reign when William becomes King.
All the best to you and your family!

  126. Linda  May 1, 2011 at 5:33 am

The world is so blessed by your years of preparing Kate to be a confident, loving woman. She now has taken that solid background to a man who so needed your family’s example in his life. It truly is a living fairytale to have these two people meet, become best friends and then lovingly create a new, stable family for the world to see and admire. They will be a wonderful example for the young people today.

  127. Kathaleen Ann Moritz Jodway  May 1, 2011 at 6:39 am

  128. Helena  May 1, 2011 at 6:45 am

A royal couple who knows the meaning of love: how wonderful!

A royal couple with college degrees and a prince who has a real job: how novel!

The monarchy will be enriched by Kate and William.

Many thanks to their parents who played a role in their development. We especially remember the love of Diana for showing her sons the real world.

  129. Jane  May 1, 2011 at 8:24 am

A stream of affirmation to all that you are as a family and all you have achieved thus far.

As parents we invest the love and values that we hold dear and then we watch and enjoy the fruit..

The prayer that your daughter and her husband wrote is a testimony to their characters and commitment to serve. You must be so proud.

I hope you are all resting happily…knowing this is all a job well done. Thank-you.

Many congratulations on your daughter Catherine’s marraige to Prince William of Wales. What a wonderful wedding, so many lovely memories – we made the journey to London for the day (together with a million others); the atmosphere was electric and we were fortunate enough to glimpse the bride and groom – may this very modern couple live happily ever after! Much love from all our family.

  131. Samantha Paddy  May 1, 2011 at 10:59 am

Firstly, I wanted to offer my sincere congratulations to you and your family on the wedding of your beautiful daughter, Kate to William. She is a fantastic role model for youngsters and my two young children will grow up watching her and for my daughter, wanting to be like her. I am sure your Princess range will sell very well this year! You must be very proud of all three of your children who are very beautiful and you all looked amazing on Friday. I have enjoyed watching you all over the last couple of days and celebrating being British. My 4 year old son watched the wedding as they have been talking about it at school and he was excited to know that some of his birthday partyware had been sent to us by Princess Kate’s Mummy and Daddy. Thank you for bringing a smile to all our faces. With much love, Sam, Bruce, Jenson and Jasmine England, Hampshire. x

James was brilliant in giving the reading, so poised and confident and clear.

You as a Family did Catherine & William proud in your support of them and your conduct in view of the immense pressure from the media and spotlight !!

I was awakened at 5:45 a.m. here in the U.S. by my 87-year-old mom, who is from Leeds. It was wonderful. Kate and William have such respect for each other. Diana was with them all the way, and I have doubt that she played a big part in William’s choice of Catherine.

Congratulations from Singapore! My daughters and I watched and enjoyed every bit of the wedding coverage. You entire family is gorgeous and beautiful. We can see where Kate gets her beauty and radiance, inside and out. And, I love your company and website. After 12 years of birthday parties as expats living in Asia, I thought Birthday Express was my only hope. Glad to have found you.

  139. June H  May 1, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Congratulations to you all on a truly beautiful wedding. You all looked perfect and I’m so glad to have seen this day finally come.
It was a spectacular feat to pull off a grand occasion which still kept all the intimacy of a family wedding.
You must be very proud of yourselves and of all your children.
The wedding dress, and the beauty of the bride wearing it, came straight from a fairy tale. I wish you all well for the future and sincerely hope that, for the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this fairy tale really does have a happy ending. (If the love shining from them is anything to go by – then I have every confidence in their future and for that of our country).

You all looked fantastic, Catherine appeared so relaxed, Pippa multitasked her very demanding role beautifully, and James’ reading was perfectly delivered. I hope now you can relax a bit – you all deserve to.

  154. Daryl Miller  May 3, 2011 at 2:41 am

Wow – A fairy tale wedding with all trimmings!
I got up at 4:00 AM Minnesota time and watched it all. My favorite part was when Kate walked out of Buckingham Palace for the first kiss – you could see her mouth drop and say WOW! The other favorite was William kissing her for second time….The first one was to short! That showed in my mind …how much he loves her!

    Dear Carole

Congratulations on the marriage of your daughter to Prince William, it was a wonderful wedding and I was glued to the tv on Friday. Prince William looked very handsome, his mother would have been so proud as I’m sure you must have been so proud as mother of the bride. They both looked so happy together.

I have ordered from your website in the past and after reading recently how you started Party Pieces it really inspired me. I’m a single parent and want to do the best for my daughter, so I’m now looking into setting up my own business, I know it will be hard work but hopefully it will be worth it.

    Best wishes

I was a great admirer of the late Princess Diana, who appears to have raised her boys in a very caring and down to earth manner, but I am now an even greater fan of your lovely daughter Catherine! She has conducted herself in such a dignified and demure manner through this whole historic event and I wish to congratulate you, the parents, for raising such a wonderful lady! You deserve all the credit for instilling in her the art of being humble and level-headed. May she never change! She deserves to be the “Princess” that she now is.

Congratulations to the Duke and Dutchess! … They will always remain William and Kate to most of us commoners.

I wish the happy couple all the best for the future!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish your family warmest congratulations for ensuring our country has thee most phenomenal beautiful so in love happy couple imaginable to represent us world wide. May God bless them both for ever. I still miss HRH Princess Diana and know in my heart she would have been so very proud of her son and your daughter you know why because I am !
I would like to share something with you all I heard just recently and thought it so lovely & a shame to keep it to myself, In all of Diana’s despair and the eternal ever positive quest for her ideal man, someone to love to be proud of, someone to look up to, to keep her safe and most importantly look after her the family and the country, Diana might not have found him, but she sure as heaven had him, our lovely Prince William !.
I would be grateful if one of your staff could please contact me re Aston Martin’s own simulator devised by the official Aston Martin test Driver for the team to train on when they cant get to the track, We have the marketing contract and with The Prince & his bride driving Aston Martin down Pall Mall, I think it would be wonderful for your company to help us supply this at all events parties hotels casinoe’s It would be wonderful to have a children’s model also for special occasions. It would be wonderful if someone could contact me to discuss possibilities.
    Kind Regards Tracy

This is quite a lovely website. I get all my party items at the dollar store but they are not as unique. These items are lovely. Like everyone else, My girlfriends and I stayed up Friday Saturday morning to watch the Wedding on TV all the way from Chicago Illinois. We also celebrated with cake and tea. Needless to say it was a lovely ceremony and we wish the new couple all the best. Success to your business as well.

  176. Pam, Kapiti Coast, New Zealand  May 15, 2011 at 4:33 am

Hi there, I have a small grandson who is having his 5th birthday soon so looked at your site for some ideas as we have nothing like this in New Zealand and the Pirate idea is a great one so will copy it. Like all the other messages before me, I congratulate your beautiful daughter and her new husband on their recent wedding. I would like to also congratulate all the Middleton family on your part in the wedding. Each of you contributed enormously to the atmosphere of the day. So proud and yet so humble, so happy, so perfect in your attire. It was a lovely personal family type wedding made so by your presence and it was wonderful to see. No wonder Prince William chose your daughter for his life partner. She will bring so much to the Royal Family just by being who she is. Again all the best to you all. If ever there was a family able to handle all the publicity and hype over this occasion with humility, yours is it. Congratulations.

    Hi Lady Middleton,

I’m going to try to do something similar in Italy, she could give me advice on this and what they think.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation, I greet you and wish you many beautiful things to her and her daughter Kate. by Rosaria

  178. Demmy  May 18, 2011 at 3:38 am

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Middleton and family,

I would like to take this opportunity to use this discussion board as many others have before me, to extend my sincere and best wishes to you and your entire family (Immediate and extended) on the recent betrothal of your daughter Katherine to Prince William.

It is with great honor and distinction that you continue on your journey to provide a valuable service to the UK community on new and innovative party/community enrichment activities as well as delivering your wonderful and informative newsletters to the public.

With that said, there are two questions I would like to ask:

First, have you considered expanding your services internationally? Perhaps target the American market place, or having a separate link that converts your prices to American dollars?

Second, unless your family was required to sign some sort of waiver by the Royals prohibiting the marketing of royal wedding ideas… Has the notion of starting an on-line “Wedding Time Pieces” appendix to your current business? …After all, you have just participated in one of the grandest weddings of the century which would certainly broaden your already well established target audience, not to mention, enhance as well as validate your credibility as “experts in the field”???…

Just “putting the idea out there” for your consideration.

Please feel free to contact me if your inclined to engage in an exchange of ideas.

Once again, I would like to extend my warmest, sincere best wishes to you and your family on all of your future endeavors. Sincerely, Demmy C.

Hello – Hope things have mellowed out in your life since the wedding….I was online watching some game show…and the question was who wrote “olivers travlers” ….all the folks said Mark Twain…but i knew he was born to late …I had no idea it was Charles Dickerson’s though? went on the internet and found out a lot about him…his family was was thrown in jail for not paying bills….He had to work in a shoe polish store to get them out …he was in a train accident…. …and also gave to a shelter to help women….lots to learn about one guy in one question…have you ever visited his home in Higham?…

    Take care for now -

  180. Andrew & Eunice  May 25, 2011 at 6:00 pm

Dear Carole & Michael, FIRST of all we want to express what a BEAUTIFUL family you all are in your humbleness & love for others. Next we would like to comment and congratulate you both on your new son-in-law Prince William and the lovely marriage to your beautiful daughter who is truely a princess! (as we all have prince & princess in our families as the Lord God sees us as His saints when we accept Him). However we really admired the wedding on tv from Edmonton, AB, Canada. One of the most treasured moments on the wedding (next to William & Catherine of course) was when your SON said the scripture from the BIBLE on 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 on LOVE…..how TRUELY spoken and your son spoke that so well and so honorable! That is God’s WORD and it was divinely spoken! However God bless you and your families and may you always prosper in God’s love! Blessings forever, Andy & Eunice

If ever two people were made for each other then it was Prince William and Princess Catherine (to us, she is already a Princess), the Fairytale gets better and better, they just looked so wonderful tonight on their first offical engagement, it brought a tear to my eye tonight, long may they rein. God bless the Middletons, it must be quite over whelming all this, just like a dream only this one has come true. Just wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

  182. Suzanne Morris  June 15, 2011 at 3:01 pm

I just wanted to say how beautiful Catherine was on her wedding day and and how stunning she always looks in High St clothes not just in Haute Couture.
Phillipa and James were incredible on the wedding day, so confident despite not being celebrities until then. James was faultless with the reading , I doubt a pro actor could have been better. Anyhow, the website is great too and I know I will be ordering soon, the lacey cupcake wraps etc look especialy nice. Could I be sent another catalogue please as a whole mug of tea was spilt over a table and my catalogue.Thank you

Party Pieces, congratulations on the lovely Duke and Duchess’ wedding.May the rain fall softly on their fields.”The commoner that captured the heart of a prince” an understatement.I rejoiced to see such affection and emotion displayed publicly.Philippa was a lovely Maid of Honor. 188. Barbara Serena  July 11, 2011 at 9:26 am

Dear Carole and Michael….Whew!!!What a fabulous 11 days. I have done nothing but watch TV since your lovely children have been touring Canada and now the U.S. Of course I was glued to the TV for the wedding in April and I was reliving what I went thru for both of my childrens’ weddings and I could not imagine how Princess Catherine and Prince William and your family pulled it off with such class. ..And then the they went and did the tour and never missed a beat. What a special family you have. It is a tribute to you both. I include Will in the family also. I thought they were great and gracious during the wedding, and then they traveled these past 11 horendous days, and I have no idea how they pulled it it off like they have been together forever. I must say they were really in their element when they were with the children and older folk. They are so comfortable in their skin! Some of the precious photos that were online today just showed such love in their eyes, not only for each other, but also for those people they were greeting. How proud you must be. I hope it makes up for you not being able to be with them now. They are the ambassadors to the world now, and thank you for sharing them with us. Can you read into this that I am blown away by them? Their beauty shines from their heart thru their eyes. How special. Last nite here in Los Angeles Kate looked the Princess that she is. Her Ball gown for the Black Tie event was soooo beautiful. She has impecable taste and what a role model she is. When I watched that Airplane take off today, I just felt like my family was taking off, and whispered “I’m going to miss you”. Had I not been disabled and widowed I would have been at one or the other event this week end. Perhaps this is enough venting, eh? I am having seperation anxiety already.
Now, I also wanted to compliment you on this Web site, of yours. It is just grand, and I haven’t even gone thru all of it. I can’t wait to tell my daughter about it. She does a lot of cake decorating for my Grandson’s school, and I know she is going to find many things to help her for the coming school year.
So my dear Folks, all the best in the world to you and your family, and please send a warm hug to all. Always remind them that there are so many out here who want them to continue with all the work they are doing and continue to be that shining beacon that they are.
Many Blessings your way from Barb S. in Newport Beach, California.

  191. K.A.  July 30, 2011 at 4:30 pm

As an American, I never followed British goings-on, but when your family inevitably began to be covered by the media, your self-made business was my favorite story to come out of it.

I love hearing about successful home businesses, especially when they’re started from scratch out of a spare shed by busy moms of three! You’ve developed it marvelously. Congratulations on your excellent commercial sense, brilliant recognition of an untapped market, and hard work; I find it inspiring!

  192. K.A.  July 30, 2011 at 6:20 pm

I should clarify my previous comment:

When I wrote that “your family inevitably began to be covered by the media,” I was referring only to when your family inevitably was covered by the most mainstream U.S. news outlets in the week preceding Kate’s wedding. I don’t think all of the other media attention ought to be “inevitable” when it’s clearly invasive and inappropriate.

Anyway, the background of how you built your business was my favorite part of that news coverage! I hope your hard work inspired more people than just me.

  193. Ania Burrows  October 16, 2011 at 2:31 pm

You are such an inspiration, Carole, you really do prove that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

You must be incredibly proud of how Catherine has taken to her new role; she is a breath of fresh air. We were wondering the other day – 15 years ago could you possibly have imagined what your lives would be like today ?

    Have a wonderful Christmas

You and your whole family are a huge inspiration for me. Catherine and Pippa are who I model myself after. They are beautiful, smart and kind people. I wish Catherine and William a long and happy life together and I wish you all the very best.

    Hello Mrs Middleton,

Firstly id like to say congratulations on the founding and setting up of the Party Pieces Business. It’s nice to see other women in another country setting up shop and being so successful at that company. May you have a long successful journey with the company.
Secondly May all go well with the Prince-William and Princes-Catherine and give you many little grand children to cherish.
Thirdly do you distribute Party Pieces items to oversea’s? Would you ever consider a oversea’s franchise that being in Australia?

I have just read an article on how you are selling royal baby themed merchanise. I am disgusted how these people are slamming you. As many parents out there when they have children, to them their little bundles of joy are their little prince’s or princesses, so you go girl. From New Zealand.

This interview touches my heart. I like the way you said “parties do not have to be lavish and expensive occasions”. It only shows that you really have a good heart. The best!!

    Good Evening,
I have ordered from you this evening . I will be ordering mainly for my 3 Grandchildren.
Their names Jack , Grace & Rose . I live in the wheat-belt country area of Western Australia . We are in quite an isolated area.
Being able to purchase such beautiful items online is wonderful . As we live 100Km’s away from Perth our Capital City.
Shops are certainly not in abundance out here where we live . I have enjoyed the convenience & experience of shopping from your store , for my Gran-daughters Christening which is in March 2013.Thankyou for this experience.Mrs Moya Macqueen.

    Dear Carole,

This is the first time I have been on your site. I am getting married this November and was checking out different websites to obtain ideas from. I must say you have real nice stuff. I just wish the British pound wasn’t so high when it comes to changing it over to Canadian and American (I live in Canada and my fiance is Bermudian. We are getting married in Bermuda)

Congratulations of becoming a first time grandmother this summer. All the best to you and your family! :-)

If ever you or your family are in Bermuda and need a wonderful wonderful guide who knows all there is to know about the island, contact us, my fiance is very professional and loves to “show off” his island!

Huge congratulations on the blessings of a new baby in your family. Living in Australia, I’ve been busy talking to family in Birmingham about the excitement and joy of a divine royal baby boy. Enjoy the adventure of being grandparents, aunt and uncle. Joyful news to wake up to in Bondi today.
    Best Wishes
