Children’s Party Ideas: Shark Party

If your child is obsessed with sharks, then make their next birthday party all about their favourite fearsome fish! We’ve got more shark party ideas than you could shake a fin at, so read on for shark games, decorations, food and plenty more to help you throw a Jaws-dropping party…

Shark decorations

Whether you’re throwing the party at home or at a venue, Party Pieces can help you turn the space into an ‘under the sea’ scene that the children will want to dive straight into. Start with a shark garland and some blue latex balloons, and also add a personalised party banner!

Top tip: You won’t want every single decoration to be shark-themed. Give an overall impression of the sea with blue backdrops and balloon arches

Shark party games

All children’s parties need games, and only sharked up versions of old favourites will do for this one. The perennially annoying song Baby Shark (Do do do do do!) could be the soundtrack to Shark Statues - musical statues but with the kids pretending to be sharks as they ‘swim’ around the party. The song could also be used for a game of musical chairs.

Why not play a round of Pin the Fin? Essentially, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but with a fin to stick to a shark instead. The birthday boy or girl can help you create the big picture of the shark and the stickable fin in the run up to the party. What’s the Time Mr Wolf? can become What’s the Time Mr Shark?

Top tip: A piñata is a brilliant way of ensuring a smashing finish to your party! This shark piñata is ready to buy in the Party Pieces store, and don’t forget to buy a mask and stick to go with it.

Sharks and crafts

One way to help your shark party go swimmingly is to do an arts and crafts session in which the kids make shark pictures, collages or junk models. Get a load of paints, stickers, glitter and colouring pens for the kids to create fantastic shark pictures. If you’d prefer to do junk modelling, get cardboard boxes, toilet rolls, pipe cleaners and plastic food containers, so that everyone can go home with their very own 3D shark.

Top tip: Check out Pinterest for some sharks craft inspo, and get your kids to make a few sharks ahead of the party. They’ll be cool decorations and will give the other children some ideas on the day.

Shark party tableware

Make sure your party table is as shark-tastic as the rest of the party set up. Shark-themed plates, placematscups, napkins, table runner and more are all available from Party Pieces. When feeding time is done, you can simply pop the eco FSC-certified products in your recycling bin to make our ocean-living friends proud. Shark cake and party food

A shark party needs a shark cake, so cover your child’s favourite kind of sponge in blue coloured icing and then turn the top of the cake into shark-infested waters, with sharks, shark fins and other sea creatures made out of fondant icing, or non-edible shark toys. You could also make a shark’s face cake, sharp teeth and all – here are some examples to get you started (some more scary than others!). If that all seems too much, why not buy a personalised cake with the birthday boy/girls face on it. Whatever cake you go for, add our Pirate Candles or Under the Sea Candles for the big blowout.

Accompany the shark cake with other shark party food: blue jelly cups can be adorned with chocolate shark fins or fish sweets, and shark biscuits will also get your little fish chomping. Just follow your favourite easy biscuit recipe and use a shark cookie cutter  to get the shape right. Then add them onto our treat stand in the shape of a shark.

Shark films

Showing the kids a film can be a great way to calm the waters at the end of your shark party. There are a few great family-friendly animated movies to pick from. Shark Tale is the most obvious choice, while Disney Plus has Finding Nemo, which features a group of not so fearsome sharks!

Top tip: Turn the sofas and floor in front of your TV into an ‘at home’ cinema for the kids to pile into.
