“Decorating cookies is a fantastic hobby if you’re feeling creative and a good starting point for beginners who would like to enter the world of cake decorating and sugar craft”says Peggy Porschen, celebrity cake maker and confectionary artist.
With home baking becoming more and more popular there are now so many exiting cookie cutter shapes and decorations to choose from and I hope you’ll be tempted to give it a try. Trust me, icing cookies is great fun and much easier than it looks.
The recipes and designs I have chosen here are fun ideas for family occasions such as birthday parties, baby showers and Easter celebrations, perfect for getting your kids involved in the baking and decorating process.
If this is your first attempt, my advice is to keep your cookie designs smart and simple. You can achieve stunning results simply by using royal icing, a selection of sugar sprinkles & silver pearls combined with a little imagination to create colourful patterns of dots and stripes piped on a plain background.
For all my designs I use only the simplest of piping techniques and parchment paper bags. If you follow the recipes and instructions below carefully and take note of my top tips you will find that with a minimal amount of tools and ingredients you will be able to create fabulous edible treats that will not fail to amaze.
